Access to Food Constitutes a Human Right
World hunger is an ever-present scourge that claims 35,000 lives each day.
Access to food constitutes a human right. In 1976, the United States Congress passed a Right to Food Resolution which declared the sense of the congress to be "that all people have a right to a nutritionally adequate diet."
Physicians Against World Hunger (PAWH), a non-profit, tax-exempt organization was founded so that physicians could collectively defend this human right.
PAWH raises money to fund loans to some of the most impoverished people in the world. These loans average only Seventy Nine Dollars but offer families a means of breaking the cycle of poverty. These "Micro" loans are used to start small, family based businesses which generate income to feed, clothe and educate children. The loans are paid back so that more families may benefit from the program.
If it sounds like it can work, it's because it does. Please join us - together physicians must help bring an end to chronic world hunger.
